NDP statement on Quebec's National Holiday and Saint-Jean Baptiste Day

NDP Critic for Culture and Heritage, Pierre Nantel (Longueuil – Saint-Hubert ), made the following statement:

"Quebecers everywhere today are united in celebrating their National Holiday.

I would like to take this opportunity to join them in honouring the vitality of the Québécois culture, which continues to thrive more than 500 years after the arrival of the first Europeans in North America.

Today’s Québécois society is based on core values of equality and respect. It is a strong, prosperous and diverse nation that has made a unique contribution not only to Canada, but to North America and the world. The continued presence of the French language on the continent is a source of pride for all of us.

I wish all the Francophone communities across Canada, that are celebrating this important national holiday, a great Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day. "
