NDP statement on Philippine Independence Day

NDP Critic for Multiculturalism Andrew Cash (Davenport) made the following statement on Philippine Independence Day:

As the NDP Critic for Multiculturalism, I would like to extend my best wishes to Canadians of Filipino heritage who are celebrating Philippine Independence Day today. Filipino-Canadians have made an incredible social, economic and cultural impact on Canadian society.

The connections between Canada and the Philippines are strong and continue to grow because of the vibrant community here in Canada, which acts as a bridge between our two countries to strengthen those relations and ties.

Recently, we’ve seen the Conservatives disrespect live-in caregivers. We are proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with the Filipino-Canadian community in fighting for social justice. New Democrats recognize and value the tremendous contributions of the Filipino-Canadian community. We will continue making practical proposals to enrich Canada’s multicultural traditions and build a more inclusive society.

I encourage Canadians from all backgrounds, from coast to coast to coast, to join in and celebrate the Philippines.

Mabuhay Philippines!
