NDP Statement on National Peacekeepers’ Day

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh made the following statement:

“Canadians serving on peacekeeping missions around the world work hard, and they are known worldwide for their sensitivity in helping people in countries that are transitioning from war to peace. This compassionate approach has earned them the deep respect they deserve.

Canadian peacekeepers have served in countless countries, from Cyprus to Lebanon, Bosnia and Herzegovina to Somalia; missions that, over the past 70 years, have helped bring relief and stability to the lives of millions of people.

Canada started developing peace missions in 1947, and in the decades that followed, we became known around the world for our peacekeeping efforts

Today, our peacekeepers continue to serve at great personal risk, and under challenging conditions, to protect the world’s most vulnerable people and save countless lives.

On this National Peacekeepers Day, let us remember our Canadians peacekeepers who risk their lives to keep the peace in countries torn by conflict.

Let us also commit to supporting peacekeeping missions operating in increasingly complex and dangerous war zones, by continuing to invest in activities that bring peace, security and prosperity to people around the world.”
