NDP statement on the National Day of Commemoration of the Exodus of Vietnamese Refugees

NDP MP Anne Minh-Thu Quach (Salaberry-Suroît) made the following statement:

“On this National Day of Commemoration of the Exodus of Vietnamese Refugees, we highlight the importance of Canada’s Vietnamese community and its achievements as well as Canada’s tradition of compassion and inclusiveness.

This day allows us to remind Canadians of the invaluable cultural, social, political and economic contributions of refugees and their children to our society. It is also the opportunity to remind us that solidarity, respect of human rights and environmental protections are important wherever we live.

My parents and brothers arrived in Canada with the hope of a better life. Like thousands of other Vietnamese refugees, they dreamed of a place where they could thrive in freedom. They transmitted the values and traditions of the Vietnamese culture to me. Now, I proudly pass the values of these two cultures on to my daughter, one from Canada where I was born, and one from the country of origin of my parents.

NDP has always advocated for respecting differences, the promotion of diversity, and a more equal Canada.

Cảm ơn!”
