NDP statement on the national day of commemoration of the exodus of vietnamese refugees

New Democrat MP Anne Minh-Thu Quach (Salaberry-Suroît) made the following statement:

“On this National Day of Commemoration of the Exodus of Vietnamese Refugees, we highlight the achievements of Canada’s Vietnamese community as well as Canada’s tradition of hospitality and inclusiveness.

Even if the title of this day doesn’t reflect the history of all Vietnamese Canadians, it allows us to celebrate our country’s generosity and reminds us of the invaluable cultural, social, political and economic contributions of refugees and their children to our society.

My parents and brothers arrived in Canada with the hope of a better life. Like thousands of other Vietnamese refugees, they dreamed of a place where they could thrive in freedom. I was born in Quebec and come from these two cultures which I proudly pass on to my daughter.

The NDP has always advocated for respecting differences, the promotion of diversity, and a more equal Canada.

Cam on!”
