NDP Statement marking the National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism

Jagmeet Singh, Leader of Canada’s NDP issued the following statement:

"June 23rd marks a painful day for hundreds of Canadian families. On this day, thirty-three years ago, a heinous act of terrorism took the lives of 329 people when Air India Flight 182 exploded over the Atlantic Ocean.

Today, on behalf of the New Democratic Party of Canada, I extend my deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. We reflect, mourn and honor the memory of all the victims and stand with the families as we recommit to doing all that we can to ensure that acts of violence and terror like this are never repeated.

On this day, we stand in solidarity with all those who have felt the pain and anguish that comes from losing a loved one to an act of terror.

Terrorism must never be seen as a way to advance the cause of any one group. It only leads to more suffering, more pain, and death.

This is why we must continue to work to fight terrorism and the conditions that create it, at home and around the world – and why we must always advocate for peace, understanding, and the protection of basic human rights.

On behalf of all New Democrats, I extend our deepest condolences to all those who have been impacted by acts of terror, at home, and around the world."
