NDP Statement on Jersey Day for the Humboldt Broncos

Jagmeet Singh, Leader of Canada's NDP issued the following statement on Jersey Day, honouring the victims and survivors of the Humboldt Broncos Tragedy:

"Today, because of a grassroots movement started by a group of hockey moms in British Columbia, Canadians across the country are wearing sports jerseys to show their support and pay tribute to the lives lost in last week's tragic bus accident.

It was truly heartbreaking to hear about the tragedy that struck the young team who had their whole lives ahead them, filled with passion and pride for the game. Their incredible commitment to their team and their love for hockey will not be forgotten.

Hockey is a powerful force that binds Canadians together. Its strength was evident at vigils held in arenas across the country that showed us all how close hockey communities are during this somber time. The global outpouring of condolences and compassion for the team shows that the world stands and grieves with Humboldt. Hockey leagues, teams, and fans will remember the Broncos.

We also thank the emergency response professionals who arrived first to the scene and worked tirelessly to treat the injured and save lives during these terrible circumstances. Your efforts will always be remembered.

On Jersey Day, New Democrats’ hearts go out to the team, their families and the entire hockey community, as we collectively mourn the lives of Tyler Bieber, Logan Boulet, Mark Cross, Glen Doerksen, Brody Hinz, Adam Herold, Darcy Haugan, Logan Hunter, Jaxon Joseph, Parker Tobin, Jacob Leicht, Conner Lukan, Logan Schatz, Evan Thomas, and Stephen Wack, Dayna Brons."
