NDP statement on International Youth Day

NDP Critic for Youth, Anne Minh-Thu Quach (Salaberry-Suroît) made the following statement on International Youth Day:

“Today, we celebrate International Youth Day, an opportunity to recognize the many contributions made by young people in Canada, and around the world.

This year’s theme is ‘youth building peace.' On this very topic, young activist Malala Yousafzai reminded Canadians this year in her address to Parliament of the importance of securing education for youth, and girls in particular. Canada must support international efforts to help make this a reality, but also ensure that all our young people here at home, regardless of origin, have the opportunities they need to succeed.

There are many young people committing to this work and mobilising their peers to make a difference. We can count on their enthusiasm and original ideas to address today’s issues, as well as future challenges. But it’s important that our government provide them with the resources and support they need.

Today, New Democrats salute the efforts of all young people who seek to transform our country and this planet into a safer and healthier place, where all people can reach their full potential. The progressive values that unite and guide us, will take us there.”
