NDP statement on International Volunteer Day

NDP critic for Families, Children and Social Development, Brigitte Sansoucy (Saint-Hyacinthe–Bagot), made the following statement on International Volunteer Day:

“On this International Volunteer Day, the NDP recognizes the invaluable contribution of volunteers across the country. By giving generously of their time, talent and energy, in their own communities and abroad, volunteers improve the lives of those in need. Their efforts do not go unnoticed.

More than 13 million Canadians do volunteer work. Volunteers are the backbone of charities, advocacy groups, education and health facilities and many more organizations that work towards the betterment of our communities.

Today, we celebrate volunteerism in all its forms and commend those who, by engaging in their community in this way, work to build a better Canada and world.

New Democrats want Canada to be a strong country where no one is left behind. We applaud Canadians who don’t hesitate to put themselves at the service of others. On behalf of New Democrats, I thank all volunteers for their invaluable work.’’
