NDP statement on Holocaust Remembrance Day

NDP Leader Tom Mulcair made the following statement:

“Today, we join Canadians in observing Yom HaShoah – Holocaust Remembrance Day.

On this day of mourning, we honour the memory of the six million Jewish victims of the Shoah – one of the darkest chapters in human history.

It is with great sadness that we think of the human lives destroyed by an abominable regime in a century marked by cruelty.

Today is also about the triumph of the human spirit. It is important to recognize the determination of those who survived and the courage of those who risked their own lives to provide refuge to victims of persecution.

We must never forget that love is stronger than hate and that it’s our responsibility to condemn all forms of hatred, intolerance and racism to ensure that such atrocities never happen again.”
