NDP statement on Holocaust Memorial Day

Official Opposition Leader Tom Mulcair made the following statement on Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Memorial Day:

“On Holocaust Memorial Day, we pay respect to the six million Jewish people who died in one of the most dreadful genocides of our time. This was an unequalled tragedy, in a century that saw far too many.

“While the horror inflicted on so many innocents will haunt humanity for generations, today is also about the triumph of the human spirit. We recognise the unparalleled determination of those who survived and the singular courage of those who provided refuge at great risk to their personal safety. It is our duty to keep their memories alive.

“The Holocaust profoundly transformed our perception of humanity and what humanity is capable of. As people of conscience it is our duty to extinguish intolerance, racism and hatred of any kind and ensure that this tragedy is never repeated.

"Lest we forget.”
