NDP Statement on Eid al-Fitr

Jagmeet Singh, Leader of Canada’s NDP, issued the following statement

“At sunset tonight, Muslims in Canada and around the world will break their fast and mark the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

This begins the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, one of the most important religious holidays for the Muslim community.

On this joyous celebration, the Muslim community will take part in morning prayers, spend time with loved ones, and enjoy a delicious feast to mark this special occasion.

It’s also a time for Muslims to give generously to those who are less fortunate. The practice of giving “Zakat”, a charitable donation to their local community, is made by all Muslims able to do so at the end of Ramadan.

This generosity of spirit is what makes the celebration of Eid al-Fitr so special. It’s a time for everyone to come together and be thankful for what and who they have around them.

As Muslims around the world gather with their family and friends, I extend my best wishes, on behalf of all New Democrats, for a joyous and peaceful celebration.

Eid Mubarak!"
