NDP Statement on the Churchill Railway

NDP MP Niki Ashton (Churchill-Keewainook Aski) made the following statement on the announcement on Churchill’s railway.

NDP MP Niki Ashton (Churchill-Keewainook Aski) made the following statement on the announcement on Churchill’s railway.

“I welcome the announcement that Northern First Nations and communities are at the helm of a proposed solution to take back the port and rail line to Churchill. While we await to hear more details about the resources available to fix the rail line, it is important to acknowledge that this action is the result of the tireless advocacy of many people in Churchill, across the North and the country. Churchill residents and Northerners suffered through an entire year as they were left stranded by Omnitrax and forgotten by the federal government. This delay was unacceptable. I call upon the Liberals to ensure that Churchill’s rail service is reinstated on schedule and that Churchill residents receive the support they deserve from their government. Now, the time has come to invest in our North and re-open the only arctic port in Canada.”
