NDP statement on Cascade Aerospace

NDP Labour critic Alexandre Boulerice (Rosemont—La Petite-Patrie) made the following statement today regarding Cascade Aerospace’s decision to bring in replacement workers despite a legal strike by Unifor Local 114:

“It is outrageous that Cascade Aerospace has decided to bring replacement workers into its operations in Abbotsford.

Unqualified workers and managers who may have rusty and outdated skills are now being asked to perform maintenance on Canada’s military transport and search & rescue planes. This is clearly an unsafe situation that the federal government is not taking seriously.

Instead of bringing in replacement workers, I am calling on Cascade to sit down at the table and bargain in good faith with the striking workers. That is the quickest and safest way to end this dispute.

Once again, the NDP believes that resorting to these replacement workers is further proof that the government needs to adopt anti-scab legislation for companies operating in areas of federal jurisdiction. “
