NDP REALITY CHECK: US got a better deal than Harper on TPP

Senior Democrats like Hillary Clinton are standing up for a better deal on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) for the United States. As they should.

But when it comes to jobs, the United States got a far better deal than Stephen Harper was able to negotiate for Canada.

Under the TPP, the U.S. will get to phase out tariffs in the auto sector over 25 years.

Stephen Harper’s bad deal means Canada will have to do the same in just five years.

This puts Canadian manufacturers at a competitive disadvantage and will hit Canadian jobs harder and faster than in the United States.

The NDP won’t be bound by Stephen Harper’s bad deal. Unlike Stephen Harper and Justin Trudeau, Tom Mulcair will stand up and fight for a better deal for Canada.
