NDP REALITY CHECK: Tories have already broken own “tax lock” law—and know it won’t stand

Today Stephen Harper promised a “tax lock.” But his Treasury Board President Tony Clement knows it means nothing from his own experience.

Tony Clement was at the cabinet table in Ontario when Ernie Eves and the Ontario PCs promised the “Taxpayer Protection Act” in 1999.

And he was at the cabinet table when that same government broke their own law just three years later.

The Conservative's Taxpayer Protection Act was broken again by the Liberals in 2004.

The NDP will protect middle class families from tax increases by asking Canada’s most profitable corporations to pay their fair share.
