NDP REALITY CHECK: STEPHEN HARPER’S REAL ECONOMIC RECORD
While the Department of Finance continues to confirm that the NDP are the best fiscal managers – balancing budgets more often than any other party, evidence mounts for how under Harper’s economic plan, middle class families are working harder than ever but can’t get ahead.
- GDP shrank again in May, the fifth month in a row
- In spite of Conservative claims to balance the budget, Bank of Canada forecasts show the Conservatives will actually run a $1 billion deficit this year
- Canada has lost more than 400,000 manufacturing jobs on Stephen Harper’s watch
- More than 1.3 million Canadians are out of work – 200,000 more than before the recession.
- And meanwhile the Conservatives blew $2 billion on income splitting scheme that only benefits 15% of Canadians – driving the budget back into deficit
