NDP REALITY CHECK: Record of manipulation, bullying and dirty tricks? Come on down, you’re the next Liberal MP!

Justin Trudeau says he’s impressed by Eve Adams’ commitment to public services. But what did the Liberal leader have to say about Eve Adams when allegations about her behavior towards a riding association emerged less than a year ago?

“I think it’s very clear that the Conservatives’ penchant for secrecy and behind the scenes games is continuing on this. I have taken some difficult decisions over the past while about ensuring that there is no bullying or undue infighting within the Liberal party.” – Justin Trudeau, April 2, 2014

Bullying and infighting? What was Trudeau referring to?

“On March 19, Adams showed up unannounced and uninvited at a riding association board meeting demanding to speak. She was asked to leave nine times but refused. Some who were at the meeting say Adams was verbally abusive at times and stayed for 40 minutes, even though she was told to go. Association members began leaving and the meeting ended. Soudas was waiting in the hallway for Adams.” – CBC, March 31, 2014

And this isn’t the first time Eve Adams had ethical issues involving election campaigning. Back when she was a city Councillor in Mississauga, Adams was found to have violated conflict-of-interest rules.

“Councillor Eve Adams violated the city's conflict-of-interest policy by ordering two employees to work on her re-election campaign, an internal investigation at Mississauga City Hall has concluded.” – Toronto Star, October 25, 2006

Adams’ refusal to take responsibility drew the ire of longtime Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion.

“‘By denying it, (Adams is) calling the city manager a liar and her staff liars. It's really bad,’ McCallion said, citing ‘a file half- an-inch thick of emails from her, directing staff.’” – Toronto Star, October 25, 2006

Was this the commitment to public service that so impressed Justin Trudeau?

Canadians deserve better.
