NDP REALITY CHECK: Liberals and Conservatives side with Jack Mintz – NDP sides with middle class families

Liberals and Conservatives are rallying behind right-wing corporate economist Jack Mintz to justify their unwillingness to ask Canada’s largest, most profitable corporations to pay their fair share.

Aside from Mintz’s political connections with both the Liberals and the Conservatives, he also sits on the board of – you guessed it – one of Canada’s largest, most profitable corporations.

Mintz is famous for supporting the following Liberal and Conservative tax measures:

  • The HST, which added billions to the cost of services for families in Ontario and BC.
  • Income Splitting, which disproportionately benefits the wealthiest Canadian families.
  • Stephane Dion’s ‘Green Shift’ Carbon Tax.

The NDP will ask profitable corporations to pay their fair share while simultaneously reducing the tax rate for smaller businesses, which create over 80% of the new jobs in Canada. The NDP will also provide target tax incentives to companies that are actually creating jobs.
