NDP REALITY CHECK: Leona Aglukkaq continues her lies

The Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN) recently caught up with Leona Aglukkaq, Conservative Minister of the Environment and MP for Nunavut.

She was asked if she heckled in the House of Commons when Tom Mulcair brought up reports of people in Rankin Inlet eating out of the town dump.

For the first time, Aglukkaq admitted to heckling when questions about Rankin Inlet came up in the House. This is remarkably different from the first response to the incident that was given by her office:

“With respect to the allegation from the NDP about the Minister that you refer to: It is false.”
  • Minister’s Office to APTN, November 28, 2014

Here’s Aglukkaq’s explanation this week:

APTN: “She admitted to heckling, but a very specific heckle.” Aglukkaq: “When Thomas Mulcair raised the issue or the auditor, of the audit, he alluded to the fact that the auditor in the report referenced Rankin, which is not true, and that’s what my quote was, that they’ve used to shape in their own direction.”
  • APTN, January 12, 2015

So, was she so mad that Tom Mulcair was misattributing sources that she shouted “that’s not true!”? Let’s check the record:

“Yesterday, as the Prime Minister's Minister laughed here in the House, as he has a want to do even now, families in Rankin Inlet were foraging for food in the town dump. APTN reports that a lack of affordable food has some families in the north scavenging in landfills” – House of Commons, November 26, 2014

Leona Aglukkaq: not even good at coming up with lies.

Canadians deserve better.
