NDP REALITY CHECK: Harper’s hand-picked Senate Speaker thinks you should thank him

Stephen Harper’s hand-picked Senate Speaker Leo Housakas has gone on the defensive and claimed that despite being flagged by the Auditor General for $6,770 in questionable contracts and travel claims, he has done nothing wrong.

"I did nothing wrong." -Senate Speaker Leo Housakos, The Canadian Press, Friday June 5, 2015

Housakos was also defiant in the face of widespread criticism that he and Conservative and Liberal Senate leaders Claude Carignan and James Cowan acted inappropriately when they set up a new internal arbitration process to allow senators to dispute the Auditor General’s findings, reportedly after being notified they would be named in the report.

“We should be thanked by the population for our actions — not accused.” -Senate Speaker Leo Housakos, The Canadian Press, Friday June 5, 2015

Unelected, unaccountable and appallingly unapologetic.

Canadians deserve better.
