NDP MPs react to tragic shooting at a Sikh Gurduara in Wisconsin, U.S.

On behalf of all New Democrats, NDP MPs offer condolences in the wake of the horrendous and hateful shooting at a Sikh Gurduara in the US.

We join all Canadians' shock and disbelief over this atrocious attack on the Sikh community in Oak Creek, Wisconsin and extend our deepest sympathies to the survivors and victims' families. New Democrats stand in unity with the Sikh community and condemn the hatred and intolerance behind this atrocious crime.

As MPs, we represent significant Sikh populations and, as in communities across the country, have been grieving together and drawing strength from each other.

"This tragedy touches so many of us. My relatives were heading to the Oak Creek Gurduara that fateful Sunday morning but thankfully, they were late and missed the shooting," added NDP MP Jasbir Sandhu (Surrey North).

NDP MP Jinny Sims (Newton-North Delta) added, "I have been meeting with local community members and listened to their concerns over this hate crime. This is a time for us all to stand together in solidarity and show that love and compassion can overcome hatred."
