NDP mourns the death of another soldier

NDP National Defence critic Jack Harris (St. John’s East) made the following statement on the death of Sgt. Ronald Anderson:

New Democrats are deeply saddened at the death of Sgt. Ronald Anderson and extend sincere condolences to his family and loved ones for their loss.

We share Canadians’ distress at the number of Canadian Forces personnel who have taken their own lives.

Canada is indebted to the women and men in our armed forces for their brave service. They should be able to count on their government for support in their time of need.

We again urge the Prime Minister to acknowledge and take immediate steps to address the suicide crisis; increase investment in mental health services for Canadian Forces members and veterans; and fast track obtaining recommendations from the outstanding military suicide inquiries.

We have a duty to the grieving families to do our best to prevent future tragedies.
