NDP leader Tom Mulcair speaks before Quebec council

DRUMMONDVILLE – On the heels of the anniversary of the historic orange wave that swept New Democrats into a majority of seats in Quebec, NDP Leader Tom Mulcair spoke to members at the Quebec Council.

He recalled the great success of the past year, as well as how the NDP is fighting against the Conservatives every day.

“We are celebrating not just the election of Canada’s first NDP Official Opposition, not just a new union of Quebecers and progressive Canadians but above all, the fact that one year ago, millions found their democratic voice”, said Mulcair.

He also highlighted how the NDP is not only the Official Opposition, but the effective opposition. “Conservatives were used to an Official Opposition that rubber-stamped its agenda — on budgets, on Afghanistan,” said Mulcair. “Those days are over — and we’ve got them on the defensive.”

The NDP intends to continue on this path to gain even more support. Mulcair concluded, “in 2015, Canadians will have a chance to make history again: by electing a government that says what it means, and does what it says. A progressive, New Democratic government that puts Canadians’ interests first.”
