NDP fighting to make sure every vote counts

As part of his efforts to ensure Parliament reflects Canadians’ political choices, NDP Democratic and Parliamentary Reform critic Craig Scott (Toronto–Danforth) has launched a petition campaign in favour of proportional representation.

“It just doesn’t make sense that although less than 40 per cent of Canadians voted for Stephen Harper’s Conservatives, the Conservatives have a majority in the House of Commons,” said Scott. “It's time for a new electoral system, one that actually represents us, to ensure that each person’s vote truly counts.”

The NDP is committed to strengthening Canada’s democracy and has consistently called for changes to the first-past-the-post electoral system. Canadians deserve local MPs who are directly accountable to them—and a House of Commons that reflects the support each party actually receives from voters.
