NDP fighting to maintain rail service in Eastern Canada

After doing nothing to maintain VIA Rail service in the Gaspé, Conservative inaction is now threatening the only rail line that links Canada from east to west.

“Our rail service is collapsing and the Conservatives are sitting on their hands,” said Yvon Godin (Acadie—Bathurst). “Is the minister going to visit our communities and explain to people why they’re losing this service that they rely on?”

The New Brunswick section being threatened by the Canadian National (CN) is the direct link for thousands of people to eastern Quebec as well as the only route that links Canada from one end to the other.

“We must work together to guarantee the future of this important section – for the economic development of eastern Canada and the entire country. We must take action before we lose this essential service,” added Philip Toone (Gaspésie—Îles-de-la-Madeleine).
