NDP demands answers on airport safety

TROIS-RIVIÈRES – As a result of efforts by NDP Transport Critic, Robert Aubin, members of the Transport Committee will have the opportunity to ask the Transportation Safety Board questions regarding airport security this upcoming Tuesday. The MP for Trois-Rivières and Quebec Caucus Chair has for years worked on aviation safety issues.

“I am very concerned about what we have recently heard about security issues at the Montreal airport. Representatives from the Transportation Safety Board will appear before the committee on Tuesday, April 4th, and I intend to ask what urgent measures the federal government is currently putting in place,” said Robert Aubin.

Other questions regarding airport safety and airport security can be expected from the committee. The study will include, among other topics, pilot fatigue, pilot certification, passenger to flight attendant ratio, and runway safety.

“Minister Garneau, who claims that safety is a top priority, will have to provide concrete answers to the committee’s questions. He should also consider a review of departmental policies in order to ensure airline passengers are protected by the highest safety standards,” concluded Aubin.
