NDP commemorates Lincoln Alexander Day

“Today as people across Canada pay tribute to the Honourable Lincoln Alexander, a special pride burns in the hearts of Hamiltonians and Canada’s black community.”

“A trailblazer, he was Canada’s first black Member of Parliament; the first black federal Cabinet Minister and Ontario’s first black Lieutenant Governor. Mr. Alexander also served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War after which he established a successful legal practise in Hamilton.”

“The Companion of the Order of Canada, one of the highest honours that Canada bestows was among the many honours Mr. Alexander received.”

“New Democrats are proud to have spearheaded the initiative to designate January 21 Lincoln Alexander Day. His sense of purpose and accomplishments will inspire Canadians for generations to come.”
