NDP cleared by Elections Canada

Elections Canada has confirmed that the NDP mailing program prior to the start of by-elections in the constituencies of Provencher, Bourassa and Toronto Centre was in full compliance with the Elections Act.

Canada's Chief Electoral Officer Marc Mayrand response came after the Board of Internal Economy had asked for clarification on this issue. The Conservative whip John Duncan had already acknowledged that the NDP had followed the rules of the House by contacting citizens through informative letters on topics important to them and their communities.

"Liberals and Conservatives failed in their smear campaign against the NDP", said NDP House Leader, Peter Julian (Burnaby-New Westminster). "New Democrats will continue to consult with citizens across the country, always respecting applicable laws and regulations governing our work as parliamentarians."
