NDP calls for swift federal help for Manitoba floods

NDP MP Pat Martin (Winnipeg Centre) issued the following statement today as Manitoba declared a State of Emergency due to flooding:

“As the Government of Manitoba declares a State of Emergency, our thoughts and prayers are with those whose homes and livelihoods are at risk.

Unfortunately, the situation has become so dire that the Government of Manitoba has requested the assistance of the military. We urge the Conservative Government to act on this request immediately.

As a fellow Manitoban, I can say to the flood victims with every confidence that we, your neighbours, will be there for you, now and in the days and months ahead as we recover from this disaster.

Finally, I would like to commend first responders, as well as municipal, provincial and federal officials for their continued hard work under these very challenging circumstances.”
