NDP calling for action to protect gay rights

The NDP is calling for Canada to stand up for human rights by immediately imposing sanctions against the Ugandan President for enacting a bill that makes homosexuality illegal.

“Levels of violence against the LGBT community in Uganda are already high and the passing of this legislation can only promote further violence,” said NDP LGBT critic Randall Garrison (Esquimalt – Juan de Fuca). “Urgent action by Canada and the international community is required if there is to be any hope of stemming the tide of anti-gay violence and the expansion of harsh criminal sanctions against gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender people.”
