Mulcair outlines plan to create jobs in the Greater Toronto Area

Today, NDP Leader Tom Mulcair brought his Ontario Tour for Change to Mississauga and outlined his plan to champion Canada’s manufacturing sector and help small business owners create jobs.

“Stephen Harper’s Conservatives have failed to invest in the businesses that drive Canada’s economy. “Under the Conservatives, over 100,000 manufacturing sector workers from the GTA have lost their jobs. It’s clear that Stephen Harper’s plan isn’t working and it’s time for change.”

Tom Mulcair’s plan would support growth and boost research and development in manufacturing by creating an innovation tax credit to encourage investment in machinery and equipment. For small businesses, which create over 80 percent of all new jobs in Canada, Mulcair would cut their tax rate from 11 to 9 percent.

These concrete measures will grow the economy, create jobs and help middle-class families get ahead.

“The NDP understands the importance of providing immediate and reliable help to small business owners,” said Mulcair. “Small businesses created the majority of private-sector jobs over the last decade in Canada, and it’s time to make them a priority.”
