Mulcair announces changes to the Shadow Cabinet

NDP Leader Tom Mulcair made the following changes to the Official Opposition Shadow Cabinet today:

  • Peter Julian (Burnaby–New Westminster) has been appointed to the position of Opposition House Leader
  • Chris Charlton (Hamilton Mountain) will be responsible for Energy and Natural Resources
  • Peggy Nash (Parkdale–High Park) will take over the Industry portfolio
  • Nathan Cullen (Skeena–Bulkley Valley) becomes the Finance critic
  • Hoang Mai (Brossard–La Prairie) has been promoted to Transport critic
  • Matthew Kellway (Beaches–East York) is replacing Mai as deputy critic for Transport

“Stephen Harper’s failure to use his cabinet shuffle to change his government’s approach and image is in sharp contrast with the depth and quality of the NDP caucus, as our MPs take on new roles,” said Mr. Mulcair. “I’m very proud of the quality of the New Democrat team. Together, we remain focused on our goal – to defeat and replace this tired Conservative government in 2015.”

New Democrats form a strong, serious and unified team, standing up to the Conservatives in a way no other Opposition party has been able to do.
