Lowlight #7: Celebrate Christmas with a Conservative tax on everything!

COUNTDOWN OF CONSERVATIVE FAILURES FOR 2013

Stephen Harper’s Conservatives had a very bad year. Plagued by an expense scandal and cover-up reaching right to the top of the prime minister’s office, Conservatives have shown they are a tired and out-of-gas government.

We are condensing a year’s worth of lowlights into a countdown of the top 15 examples of Conservative blunders, scandals and ineptitude.

LOWLIGHT #7:
CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS WITH A CONSERVATIVE TAX ON EVERYTHING!

While Canadians across the country are enjoying new Christmas presents this morning, we should remember the gift that Stephen Harper’s Conservatives wrapped up for us last spring and left under the Budget tree – tax hikes on almost everything, for everyone.

Conservatives hit Canadians right in the pocketbook in their 2013 budget – imposing a tax on everything from that fishing rod for dad under the tree to the new bicycle for your daughter to even that new iPod for your nephew.

Conservatives even raised taxes on some of life’s most inescapable expenses – hospital parking and coffins.

Not satisfied with raising taxes on consumer goods, Conservatives hiked tax rates on credit unions – a reckless attack against these important economic drivers.

Canadians deserve better.

While other leaders have been missing in action, Tom Mulcair has been showing up to work on behalf of Canadians – holding Stephen Harper accountable and putting forward practical solutions to help families make ends meet.
