Liberals jumping ship

Team Trudeau has taken a bit of a hit in recent days, with four candidates departing the ranks of the nominated and accusations flying of increasingly undemocratic nomination processes.

Yesterday, former Liberal candidate and Canadian Forces veteran David MacLeod made his reasons for stepping down crystal clear – he’s no fan of Justin Trudeau’s cynical political calculus on C-51:

“As a soldier, I helped defend Canada’s democracy by participating in peacekeeping, peacemaking and war… Having opposed oppressive political systems in the name of Canadian democracy, I refuse to support any entity complicit in the creation of a repressive act which assaults Canadian liberty.”

  • David MacLeod, Globe and Mail, June 15 2015

Ouch.

MacLeod’s move follows the loss of three other candidates in quick succession:

  • Susan Watt, in Etobicoke-Lakeshore, Ontario
  • Daniol Coles in Edmonton-Griesbach, Alberta
  • Marcel Isnana in Regina—Qu'Appelle, Saskatchewan

It’s no wonder that even sitting Liberals like Adam Vaughan are making excuses for Trudeau’s poor leadership:

@PnPCBC .@TOAdamVaughan: Sometimes in politics you move the agenda fwd and then you can go back and work on it. #C51

Canadians deserve better – they deserve a principled Leader like Tom Mulcair who isn’t afraid to stand up for our rights and freedoms.
