Liberal Party actions compromise Canadian diplomacy

Justin Trudeau is putting Canada’s international relations at risk for his own partisan benefit by inviting foreign diplomats to attend partisan events.

“Foreign governments should not be meddling in Canada’s internal politics, and Canadian politicians should never use foreign diplomats for partisan gain,” said NDP Foreign Affairs Critic Paul Dewar (Ottawa Centre). “The Liberal Party of Canada has shown poor judgment by inviting foreign diplomats to partisan events— and worse, using their presence to raise money for the Liberal Party of Canada.”

Less than a week after Justin Trudeau invited the Chinese Ambassador to share a stage with Liberal candidates, it was reported that Pakistan’s consul-general in Toronto attended both a Liberal Party fundraiser and a campaign office opening of a Liberal candidate.

“By involving foreign diplomats in partisan events, Trudeau has once again shown a lack of experience,” said NDP Ethics Critic Charlie Angus (Timmins--James Bay). “Poor judgment like this shows that he’s just not ready to lead.”
