Liberal government must stand up for aerospace workers

New Democrats are calling on the government to protect good, sustainable jobs in Bombardier while minimizing risks to taxpayers.

“The livelihood of thousands of Quebecers and Canadians could be affected by the Trudeau government’s decision,” said NDP MP Pierre Nantel (Longueuil—Saint-Hubert). “Quebec is seeking federal support to save the Montreal company and protect a sector which directly employs 41,750 people in Quebec alone. The government can do this responsibly to minimize any risk to taxpayers.””

During the election campaign, the Liberals committed to increasing innovation and export. The outlook for the Canadian economy has since deteriorated and we cannot afford to lose thousands of good, well-paying jobs. Federal assistance to key contributors to our economy has been important in saving jobs in the past. Aerospace jobs deserve the same protections.

“Here in Longueuil-Saint-Hubert, the aerospace and aeronautics sectors are key pillars of our local economy,” said Nantel. “The Liberals must stand up for these workers and their families.”
