Layton names Garrison as LGBTT critic

Dany Morin to serve as Associate LGBTT critic

OTTAWA –New Democrat Leader Jack Layton has tapped Esquimalt-Juan de Fuca MP Randall Garrison to be the party’s new LGBTT critic and Chicoutimi—Le Fjord MP Dany Morin to be associate critic.

“New Democrats have a long tradition of having a strong voice in Ottawa for the LGBTT community, a tradition we will continue with Randall and Dany,” said Layton. “I am pleased they have accepted these roles and I expect they will be great advocates and defenders of this important community in Canada.”

Garrison, a former Esquimalt councillor and instructor in Criminal Justice and Political Science at Camosun College, was thrilled with the appointment.

"I am excited to take on this role and I look forward to working with my colleagues to advance equality for the LGBTT community here in Ottawa and across the country,” said Garrison. “It’s a big responsibility and I look forward to the challenge.”

Morin was equally excited about his new role in the party.

“New Democrats have been the national leader in promoting LGBTT rights,” said Morin. “I am eager to take up this new role and be a strong advocate for our community.”
