International day of La Francophonie: Robert Aubin celebrates French, a language that looks toward the future

TROIS-RIVIÈRES — Today marks International Day of La Francophonie, and NDP MP Robert Aubin (Trois-Rivières) hopes that we celebrate and are inspired by French - a language that looks toward the future. This year, the theme of the festivities is "French is an Opportunity." This opportunity is ours in Canada.

Canada is a member of the International Organization of la Francophonie, and, as such, has a responsibility to strengthen the rule of law and maintain peace, while promoting gender equality, sustainable development and solidarity.

The International Day of La Francophonie is also an opportunity to remember that NDP MPs work to ensure that the government's commitments to defend and promote official-language minority communities are reflected in the budgets of various departments. The protection of French can only be achieved through concrete action, and it is time for the government to support the initiatives of the NDP.

"When it comes to French-speaking communities, the international community often looks toward Canada. We must set an example by defending and promoting French and its values," said Robert Aubin, New Democrat Critic for la Francophonie.

All New Democrats join Robert Aubin and the residents of Trois-Rivières in celebrating the International Day of La Francophonie. Let us continue to work to meet the needs of francophone communities everywhere.
