Hey Lisa Raitt, is Canada Post an arm’s-length crown corporation?

Today Lisa Raitt promised to direct Canada Post to go after the NDP, as part of the kangaroo court findings by the Liberals and Conservatives.

Of course, she never showed much interest in intervening with Canada Post on their plans to stop home delivery. And she doesn’t care that sections 35 and 36 of the Canada Post Act are clear about how mail from Parliament will be treated.

What to say about this newfound interest in Canada Post on behalf of the Conservatives. Below is what the Minister of Transport has been saying about her relationship with Canada Post for the past few months:

“Canada Post is an arm's-length crown corporation” Lisa Raitt, House of Commons, June 5, 2014 “Canada Post is an independent crown corporation and as a third party, is arm's length from us.” Lisa Raitt, House of Commons, May 7, 2014 “it is an arm's-length crown corporation that is responsible for its own operations” Lisa Raitt, House of Commons, May 7, 2014 “It has its own operation, management and administration and does so at arm's-length from the government.” Lisa Raitt, House of Commons, May 7, 2014 “It is an arm's-length organization” Lisa Raitt, House of Commons, April 1, 2014 “Canada Post is an arm's-length crown corporation and makes its own decisions on a day-to-day basis” Lisa Raitt, House of Commons, January 29, 2014 “Canada Post Corporation operates at arm's length from the government.” Lisa Raitt, House of Commons, January 28, 2014

Canadians deserve better.
