Davies: Trudeau must denounce star candidate’s damaging comments re: G7
Ahead of tonight’s Munk Debate on foreign policy, Don Davies NDP Candidate (Vancouver-Kingsway) called on Liberal leader Justin Trudeau to denounce comments made by his International Trade Critic, Chrystia Freeland (University- Rosedale) about Canada’s role in the world.
“Canada is a member of the G7. We don’t really deserve that”

“Tom Mulcair and the NDP believe Canada has a leading role to play on the world stage,” said Davies. “Justin Trudeau’s star candidate and key member of his economic advisory team clearly doesn’t believe Canada matters in global affairs.
“If Justin Trudeau thinks he can lead Canada on the world stage, he has no other choice but to denounce the short-sighted comments made by his hand-picked international trade critic that Canada doesn’t belong in the G7,” said Davies.
“After ten years of Stephen Harper, we need to usher in a new era of Canadian leadership on the world stage,” said Davies. “Justin Trudeau and his team just aren’t up to the job.”
Davies noted Freeland is the same key Trudeau advisor who advocated letting automakers go bankrupt in the 2008 economic crisis, and who said she was looking forward to reading the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement so she could “see what it is we’re actually supporting”.
