Conservatives reject gender equality on crown corporation boards of directors

New Democrat MP Anne-Marie Day (Charlesbourg—Haute-Saint-Charles) slammed the Conservatives for rejecting last night her bill to ensure better representation of women on Crown corporation boards of directors.

“This bill would have made it possible to establish a balance of women and men on Crown boards, where women occupy only 27 percent of positions,” said Day. “Since it’s the Ministers who appoint directors, the Conservatives have shown once again that gender equality is not a priority for them.”

Bill C-473 would have gradually increased the number of women on Crown corporation boards of directors to achieve equal representation within six years of its adoption.
