Conservatives’ Olympic carbon tax
While they rant and rave about a “carbon tax” out of one side of their mouth, Conservatives spent hundreds of thousands of dollars of public money on carbon credits.
More than $225,000 in total was spent to compensate for carbon emissions generated during the Vancouver Olympics, or as outlined in an April 3 Postmedia article, “The total would be equivalent to paying a carbon tax worth about $13.55 per tonne of emissions.”
If we follow the twisted logic of the MP for New Brunswick Southwest, John Williamson, “a price on carbon is a tax on carbon. That makes it a carbon tax. ”
Conservatives publicly oppose the exact thing they’re doing behind closed doors - paying for carbon. Fortunately Carbon Tax Poet Laureate Jacques Gourde is able to provide transparency to explain the simplicity of their plan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XL7lXCow6o
When Conservatives make policy they don’t just hide it from Canadians, they publicly deny it exists. It is this cowardice and hypocrisy New Democrats oppose.
Canadians deserve better.
