Conservatives are ‘heartless’ in outsourcing veterans’ medical records to an American based company

New Democrats are gravely concerned that the Conservative government is starting to outsource the management of veterans’ private medical records to an American based company.

"I think that CF and RCMP veterans will be quite shocked to learn that this Conservative government is outsourcing the management and storage of veterans private medical records to an American based company Iron Mountain Incorporated,” said NDP Veterans' Affairs critic Peter Stoffer (Sackville—Eastern Shore). "It is simply outrageous that a private company will be handling the sensitive personal information of our veterans."

The NDP pointed out that this is another new low in the Conservatives handling of the veterans’ file following the closure of eight veterans regional offices in January.

"Managing our veterans medical files should remain the responsibility of our public service and the appropriate federal government department," said NDP MP Sylvain Chicoine (Châteauguay—Saint-Constant). “We call on the federal government to reverse this decision.”
