Conservative iPod tax lie

Like peeling back the skin of an onion, the Conservative’s 2013 budget is a stinker. Who’s the target in this year’s budget? Canadian music lovers!

“the tariff category for MP3 players and iPods - 8519.81.29, is seeing a tariff increase from 0 to 5%” -Dr. Mike Moffatt, Twitter, April 4, 2013

That’s right – Conservatives have introduced an iPod Tax! A 5% tax increase on MP3 players and iPods.

Minister James Moore and Tony Clement must be furious about this development since it contradicts previous statements they’ve made against implementing an iPod tax.

“During this fragile economic recovery, the last thing Canadian families and consumers need is a massive new tax on iPods" – Joint statement by Tony Clement, Minister of Industry, and the James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage, December 14, 2010

To make sure Canadians knew they were serious, they included a photo op with a backdrop and t-shirts and youth! http://www.flickr.com/photos/13073450@N07/5261515010/

With such a strong stand against this new tax, are we going to see these Ministers show courage for their convictions and oppose these new taxes on Canadian music lovers? Will they pull a Bernier?

When Conservatives make policy they don’t just hide it from Canadians, they publicly deny it exists. It is this cowardice and hypocrisy New Democrats oppose.

Canadians deserve better.
