Conservative inaction on climate change hurting provinces

AB premier Alison Redford latest to call out federal inaction on environment

Stephen Harper’s Conservatives have another critic of their inability to take action on climate change – Alberta premier Alison Redford.

“Even Western Conservative voices are now agreeing with the NDP that Conservative failure to regulate greenhouse gas emissions is a major problem,” said NDP Environment critic Megan Leslie (Halifax). “We need urgent action to curb emissions, not more Conservative stalling.”

The Conservatives have obstructed climate change negotiations, delayed emissions regulations and pulled out of the Kyoto Protocol. Since taking power in 2006, Conservatives reduced Canada’s national greenhouse gas emission targets by 90 per cent.

“This isn’t only about taking action today, it’s about working with our provincial partners to build the Canada we want to leave for our children,” said Leslie. “Alberta seems to get this, why don’t Stephen Harper’s Conservatives?”
