Canada’s tourism industry in decline

Recently released statistics confirming a decline in Canada’s tourism industry worries the NDP.

“The Conservatives slashed the Canadian Tourism Commission’s funding and have failed to present new measures to revitalize this sector. We’re seeing the results,” said Small Business and Tourism critic Glenn Thibeault (Sudbury).

While tourism is growing worldwide, it has declined dramatically in Canada in the last decade. And the 2014 budget doesn’t provide any new funding to help the Canadian Tourism Commission promote Canada abroad.

“For Canada to position itself strategically and compete internationally, it must invest in tourism. The Conservative government missed another opportunity to support the tourism sector and ensure Canada’s position as a destination of choice,” added deputy critic Annick Papillon (Québec).
