Bring out your anti-choice, anti-gay MPs and nomination candidates fellow Conservatives!

There’s no moral crusader like an old moral crusader, and the Conservative MP and challenger seeking the nomination in Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner have proven that.

Jim Hillyer, Conservative MP for Lethbridge - famous for mimicking gun shots while voting in the House of Commons - took on the issue of rights for gays and lesbians:

“a lot of the trouble with the social and moral issues is the people who don’t share our views on these issues are very clever and very sly. They hijack our language — it’s like 1984 newspeak or doublespeak.” - Jim Hillyer, Medicine Hat News, September 10, 2014

Err, OK Jim. Not wanting to be outdone, erstwhile Conservative MP Dan Hein, challenging Hillyer for the nomination added:

“’I’m not interested in somebody parading in front of me their sexual preferences, whether hetero or anything else … I don’t believe it is proper form, I don’t believe it benefits anyone to bring this stuff out in garrish [sic] fashion and parade it in the public square’. Hein added he doesn’t believe a restaurant owner should be obliged to serve a person whether it’s the way he cuts his hair or ‘any reason.’” - Medicine Hat News, September 10, 2014

But the fun doesn’t stop there, the two candidates went on to discuss a woman’s right to choose:

“I have declared, wildly and boldly in my first nomination, that I am pro-life and whenever a pro-life question comes up, I will vote pro-life” - Jim Hillyer, Medicine Hat News, September 10, 2014

Again, not wanting to be bested in the denying-women-their-rights category:

“Hein said the issue has come up a lot throughout the riding, stating he is against abortion and ‘for babies.’” - Medicine Hat News, September 10, 2014

Canadians deserve better.
