Anne Minh-Thu Quach will attend UN Conference on Sustainable Development, Rio + 20

She will speak for Canadians who oppose Conservative environmental policies

OTTAWA – MP and Deputy Environment Critic, Anne Minh-Thu Quach (Beauharnois—Salaberry) will represent the NDP at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development, Rio + 20, this week. She will also speak for the vast majority of Canadians who oppose the Conservatives’ backwards environmental policies.

“I’m happy to participate in this important conference. Sustainable development and the future of the planet are critical issues, something the Conservatives have unfortunately failed to understand. While the entire world is moving towards a green economy, the Conservatives are destroying our environmental legislation and bringing us backwards 30 years with their Trojan Horse C-38,” said Quach.

The focus at the conference will be on developing the green economy and poverty reduction.

“It’s critical that we use our resources to meet our needs in a responsible way so that future generations will be able to meet theirs. The Conservatives’ irresponsible budget does just the opposite and it’s Canadians who will pay,” added the MP.

“The progress of other countries in establishing their green economy will be at the forefront of the conference, but thanks to the Conservatives, we won’t have much to show. Many Canadians know that the green economy is the way of the future. The NDP will try to make the Conservatives understand this.”
