Nycole Turmel was elected Member of Parliament for Hull-Aylmer in 2011 and named national caucus chair for the official opposition.
Nycole Turmel worked in a Canada Employment Centre before getting involved with the Union movement.
From 1979 to 2006, she held different Union positions at the local, regional and national levels. Upon retiring, she was National President of the Public Service Alliance of Canada, the first woman to ever hold that position.
Nycole Turmel has continued her involvement in her community. She was a member of two Boards on affordable housing, and represented the workers on the Management Committee of Financial Assets of the QFL Solidarity Fund. From 2007 to 2011, she was Vice-President of the Ombudsman Office of the City of Gatineau. A Research Academic Chair at UQAM on public spaces and political innovations was named in her honor.
